July 26 Beach Scenes Watercolor Workshop

July 26, 2014 – Sierra 2 Center

Pack the cooler and big umbrellas – we’re going to hit the beach for inspiration and painterly compositions.  Working from photo references, we’ll focus on painting sand, sea and sky, along with bright counterpoints of color and shape.  We’ll draw inspiration from a wide range of artists including 19th century Impressionists, Spanish master Joaquin Sorolla and more contemporary works by members of the California Art Club.

June 28 Figures Without Fear Watercolor Workshop

June 28, 2014 – Sierra 2 Center, Sacramento, CA

10:00 am – 3:00 pm

This workshop is designed for the person who does not deal with the figure on a regular basis. You know who you are! You might be a beginner, or a painter of landscapes or, like me, of still life. Regardless, you know the cold sweat of fear when it comes to incorporating the human form into a composition so the end result looks proportional, effortless and not overworked.

You will approach the figure from a variety of angles-looking at examples rendered in watercolor by both past masters and contemporary artists. We’ll transform the figure into interconnected shapes defined by value as we explore the portrait, the full form and experiment with effective ways to introduce the incidental figure into a composition. This workshop is suitable for beginners and beyond.
