Panel Discussion: Women in the Arts

Thursday, March 23, 6:30 PM, Crocker Museum of Art, Sacramento

In honor of Women’s History Month, I’ll be leading an in-depth  conversation with Texas painter Donna Howell-Sickles and Los Angeles interdisciplinary artist Micol Hebron about the state of the arts for women artists.  We’ll discuss challenges, victories, inequalities and the road ahead.  We’ll look at why women are some underrepresented in the permanent collections of art museums and in the top-end galleries.  Throughout the discussion, you’ll hear the voices of many artists in short monologues based on interviews I conducted with artists from around the country – brought to life onstage by a talented crew of performers.  All in all, it’s going to be an evening you won’t want to miss!  Seating is limited, Reserve now!

Kurt Edward Fishback has made portraits over the years of a long list of notables in the art world including Richard Diebenkorn, Ansel Adams, Elmer Bischoff, Judy Chicago, Chuck Close, Robert Mapplethorpe, Wayne Thiebaud, Viola Frey…it’s a very long list. Many of these portraits appear in his book, “Artists in Residence.”
It means a lot that he is turning his lens in the direction of women artists and I’m honored to be a part of the project.
